Ching Ming aka Grave Sweeping Day.

Throat inflammation again. It hurt so bad every morning when I woke up. A bit itchy too.

I think it’s because I haven’t had enough proper rest lately.

Coughing badly too. But no phlegm came out.

Oh.. and this “package” comes with constant headache too. I think it’s what Chinese always refers as: “gah foh” direct translation: fake fire? I’m not sure what it’s called in English. Do they even have a term for it at the first place? Ugh.. never mind.

Went to Mambau, I think it’s between Seremban and Port Dickson, to visit my Grampa’s grave on Saturday because Ching Ming ,the day we visit graves of our ancestors to clean their tombs. Dad told me and brother it’s their “New Year”, cos for us, we clean our house for Chinese New, so we have to sweep the grave as clean as possible too..

We departed at 6.30a.m, and reached there around 7.45a.m. There were so many people there compared to last year we went. Dad told it’s because last year, we went a month earlier cos it’s the first year Grampa “celebrated” Ching Ming. Last year, there were some Indonesian workers there offering to clean the graves for us (for RM50), but this year, we saw no signs of them. Perhaps they’re busy with other graves. Dad told us it’s a tradition that we need to pass on to our next generation next time. Dad doesn’t really know the complete (and original) ritual cos Grampa came from China and our ancestors are all buried in China. We just simply brought some food and a bottle of Guinness Stout (Grampa’s favourite)for offerings and also some stuff (clothes and “hell money”) that we burn for Grampa. Some people there even brought firecrackers and burn it in front of their ancestors’ grave. It’s really like a celebration.

It’s a believe that praying to our ancestors (most Chinese have an altar for ancestors besides other Gods statues at home) brings good luck to next generations. Dad told me that his brother in China (different mother) who prays to our ancestors and clean their graves during Ching Ming, is doing very well now, compared to another brother who doesn’t. It’s kinda sad that dad never been to China for a visit to our ancestors’ graves as most people usually will go back to their origin country for a visit. At least we (the next generation) knows where our ancestors were buried.

Ming’s mother told me that only the sons can go for Grave Sweeping. Married daughters are not allowed to go, unless they had the permission from their brothers (which I personally think it’s a ridiculous rule). I asked why is it so? Married daughters are still family too, right? She said because married daughter doesn’t carry the same surname anymore, also, they believe (and afraid) that the good luck will be taken away by the daughters. Wtf? Ridiculous, no? I think it is nonsense. I asked my dad the other day and he said for him, it’s okay to have his sisters to visit Grampa. The more the merrier. That tradition/rule is for selfish people to follow/believe. Which, I agree totally. How can you ban married daughters to visit their ancestors? It’s so unfair. And what if that family doesn’t have any sons? Damn sad right?

So back to my story… we reach there quite early but still it’s flooded with people. Luckily the sun is not up so high yet when we reached and still covered by the higher ground so it’s still not too hot. This year, only three of us went. Dad, Desmond and I. (Last year, we had Debb, Fazral and Ben with us). After we finished cleaning, offering and praying, we ate the food. Hehe.

Being the first year cleaning the grave ourselves, we didn’t know what compulsory tools to bring, so we used plastic bag as gloves and newspaper as broom to sweep it. Next year, we’re gonna bring gloves, mini broom/brush and maybe a shovel. We passed by a grave planted with those nice grass, which is quite beautiful. I wanted to take some photos for this visit, but then only realized that I forgot to bring camera and left my phone at home.

Speaking of photos, there are still quite a number of photos sitting in the memory card cos the card reader is spoilt. Oh.. I splurged last weekend too. Gah! But I think it’s a necessity and I don’t really feel bad about it. Report after I get a new card reader.

Why?

Extracted from here

A SINGAPOREAN died of heart failure after his penis became stuck in a soft drink
bottle, reported Sin Chew Daily and China Press.
The incident happened when
the 77-year-old man used the bottle to masturbate.
China Press reported that
the senior citizen got his private part into the bottle and only sought help
after his penis could not be dislodged from the bottle despite trying various
ways such as applying soap water.
Doctors tried to alleviate the man’s
suffering by cutting the bottle below the neck but to no avail because by that
time, the skin around the penis had started to become inflamed, causing him to
be unable to urinate.
His misadventure later led to other medical
complications causing his death.

i have nothing to say.

Worthiness.

I’ve been standing so much that the tip of my toes feel numb 24/7.

There’s this one night, my feet hurt so much that I kept waking up at night.

It’s only been 3 weeks and there are moments that I thought of giving up. But then… I can’t give up so easily. I can’t chicken out. This is nothing. A lil bit of hardship is definitely worth it at the end of the day. This is what I keep telling myself.

I can do it.

I can deal with it.

I’ll live with it. At least for the time being.

Someday, my hard work will pay off.

Someday, I don’t have to work so hard to achieve what I dream of.

Someday.

One day.

When will it be?

Hopefully before I lose my strength.

Happy 24th

Today is a special day.

A day filled with celebration, endless text messages and phone calls with all the best wishes.

For all the years we’ve known each other, there was never a year that I have forgotten this day. Ironically, there was never a year that we celebrated together, for many reasons. Being your best friend, I totally accept and understand all those reasons and totally not minding a belated birthday dinner with you.

Because you are my best friend. Best friends do not always need to come first. You know we’re always with each other despite the physical absence.

Dear you,

Happy Birthday.

I’ll be getting very little sleep.

About 4 hours or less.

I don’t know whether it’s worth it or not... but sigh.. I had to lah. No choice.

Luckily it’s only 3 days a week.

Monday, March 16, 2009

It’s been 2 weeks (I think) since the last time I slept at my own house.. so I thought of going back for a night or two this week…

Note to self : I seriously need to go home more often!

Since it’s unplanned (I don’t have to plan when to go back to my own house anyway, right?), so I SMSed Smelly..

Dy : bB, I’m going back to sleep tonight.

Smelly :
Why?

Dy : So long didn’t go back…

Smelly : You got new
phone then leave me alone

Dy : *insert an indifferent-look
emoticon*

Smelly : Bad la u *insert 8-) emoticon*

Dy :
You ah… where got… come.. I sayang you back. Muahx!

Bleh!

and i had to force myself eating something that i hate with tears.

yesterday, you made realised how significant i am to you.

you bought the food that i don't eat (if i have a choice).

"you know that i don't eat (yellow) mee right?"

"oh.. i remember wrongly," you said. "i thought you don't eat mee hoon."

after three years.... and you still can remember wrongly?

you have no idea how i felt that very moment.

it's like a zillion needles poked through my heart...

Complaint Letter

I wrote a complaint letter on behalf of my boss today.

Excerpt from the letter:

As your Platinum Cardmember, I am very disappointed with the slow service
that I received yesterday, especially the reason given by Marina, which
made me feel that she is unwilling to help and definitely did not attempt to
go extra mile to solve the problem
. This is very upsetting and troublesome
to me. If this will be the service and efficiency that I will be receiving as a
Platinum Cardmember, I will not hesitate to cancel the card immediately.

After my boss read it, he decided not to send the letter.

He said I was too harsh. He was like.. “I never knew you are good at writing complain letters!”

“cos I used to work as customer service before. We receive and read a lot of complain letters frequently =P ”

He replied, “Don’t put names la.. I think it’s not so nice lah… hmm… tell you what.. Let’s just forget about it.. I’ll just stop using the card. No need send lah..”

Sobz…

Why my boss so nice one… made me feel bad. Bleh!

weekend

Benny came back from Hong Kong again, for business trip this time.He came back with his colleague/partner-to-be, Gino this trip. Went to Zouk for a drink at Terrace Bar (I don’t know the new name) and bumped into a few friends, which I’m not quite surprised cos Zouk used to be my workplace and second home 3 years ago. Brought Benny and Gino to Petaling Street for claypot Lou Shu Fun and fried Siu Yoke, which they loved a lot. Oh.. Benny bought tidbits for me and Connie again. Though the last time he came, he didn’t get any for me cos I was indecisive… I asked him to buy something that we can’t find in Malaysia, he replied me with, “oh.. Then no need to buy cos I’m already here. You can’t find me in Malaysia.” wtf. So I had to steal some of the “sausages” he bought for Connie. Oh.. I LOVE the sausage. It’s actually made from fish. LOVE the cheese flavored ones. Oh.. This time, he bought a HUGE sausage. Haha! wtf..

Oh.. didn’t manage to take any photos with them cos they’re too busy checking out girls at Zouk. Lol! They said Malaysian girls are very tall. And almost all pretty girls looked similar. -_- can’t wait for them to come back again (they’ll be travelling back very often for business). Quite fun talking to them. Especially Gino. Cos it’s the first time he visit Malaysia, he asked a lot of questions, which I think is very funny in a very adorable way. He’ll ask questions like, “why you call “la la” girl, “la la”? It’s a type of seafood, right? Any significance?” oh well… I had a hard time explaining why we call “la la” girls “la la” (cos I also dunno!!) He’ll ask questions like, “how come most of the girls out here can go clubbing without their boyfriends?” and “Is one night stand common in Malaysia?” wtf.. I also dunno leh. Since Benny’s father is a Malaysian and he comes back very often, he kinda understands our Cantonese/slang… words like “sien” means bored. “Yamcha” means going out for a drink, for them, it really means drinking Chinese tea at dim sum place. Gino had fun trying to understand our slang too. He said he love Malaysia. I’m like… wtf? Malaysian wants to get out of their country and he wants to stay here for good. Seriously.. This is really “grass is always greener at the other side” case. I had fun trying to talk in understandable Cantonese. Ahh… reminds me of those days when I was working in Marriott. One thing they don’t really like is our public transportation system. I totally agree! And the traffic jam is very ridiculous. Not forget to mention taxi. Can you believe it? They flagged a cab from Sg Wang, the taxi driver wanted RM20 to go to Renaissance Hotel. RIDICULOUS right? Normal metered taxi just costs about RM5 max. They took the monorail instead. Which was packed like sardine can cos it was around 6pm. The nest time they come, we’ll try to go Melaka or Penang cos Gino have not tried chicken rice balls, satay celup and any type of laksa. He said he likes spicy food.

Oh.. I went to Genting on Saturday for a night there. I had to drive my youngest aunt up there to meet 2 other aunts cos my cousin FFK last minute cos his daughter was sick. Bad decision cos the supposedly BIG room my dad got turned out to be really tiny rooms, which I think the hotel cheated my dad. Something happened when I was there that made me got REALLY angry and I decided to talk back to my stupid-bitch-mouthed oldest aunt and I think I did a great job. Mgch! Thinking about it makes me angry again! Cibai aunt. From now on, I decided not to talk to her again. Well.. I’ll TRY not to talk to her lah.. cos I don’t want to appear rude… wtf.. cos I’m a good girl. Unlike Shorty, who are able to COMPLETELY IGNORE her after I told her the incident. *clap hands* bravo Sis… BRAVO!!!

Happy Birthdays!

I think I have sleeping disorder. Or rather, difficulty in staying awake at office.

Ugh.

Is this a sign? Bleh.

Anyway, Joyce went to labour yesterday night. Not sure how many hours she'll be in the room. And guess what? If she give birth today, her baby will share the same birth date with my niece, Eva!! Woohoo!! I told Shorty about this and she's so excited!

Lol!

By the way, Happy Birthday Eva!!

We actually celebrated Eva's Chinese birthday last 2 weeks. Being a cheapo aunt, I only bought her a cake, which she still don't have teeth to eat! Bleh. (ok.. I'll make it up to you when you turn 21. haha! Wtf.)

*update*

Joyce gave birth d. Gary is officially a daddy now. Joyce and Ah Girl is both well! Going to the hospital after work later to see them.

Wah.. I'm so excited weh..

Time To Change!

i'm working on a new header.

hopefully can get it done by end of this week.

oh.. i'm changing the title too. ::confessions of a drunken mistress:: sounds a bit wrong now when i think about it...

weddings.

I just got another wedding invitation. This time it’s from my senior in secondary school. My used-to-be-tomboy pet sister. Haha.. (you won’t get it if you’re not coming from an all-girls’ school. *giggles* I can’t stop laughing about how naively silly I was last time. LOL.)

It’s been 8 years since we last saw each other. She shifted school when our school got relocated when I was going to Form 4. After she left our school, we still keep in touch by snail-mailing each other for a while and maybe sms once in a while. Until after some time, we both just stopped contacting each other. Maybe because we’re both busy with our lives and such.. But one thing that I remember most is her birthday. I kinda never fail sending her wishes by sms, until one of the years, I found out that she’s not using that number anymore… we lost contact for a bit and after 2 or 3 years of trying to look for her, I gave up.. But she found me in Facebook few months ago and it was really good to hear from her again. And she’s getting married. Bah!

My used-to-be-tomboy pet sister is getting married! I’m so happy to hear that.

Isya (my secondary classmate) is also getting married in April (if I’m not mistaken).

Nick (my Form Six friend) is also getting married in June (if I remember correctly).

Another wedding will be Kee Sin and Poh Yee (my college mates) in December… (I think).

Wow.

So many weddings to attend.

Is this a sign?

That’s I’m getting old?

Ugh.

Now I know how Smelly felt… LOL!

I sense more weddings to come this year and next year.. and the year after too...
