Makan Trip - Second Stop. Day One : PENANG

After breakfast it was around 12pm, we continue our journey up north. it was quite jammed on the way.

see how jam it was?

it was a gloomy day.

close to destination. still very jam.

after what seems like forever, we finally saw the sign!!

yay!! by the time we reached the hotel, it was already 3.30pm.

we booked 2 rooms at Holiday Inn.

RM250++ a night. i think it's quite worth it. the hotel is very clean and just nice for the four of us in a room.

there was no sun and it was drizzling all day long so we (Me, Smelly, Deric and Christine) decided to stay in while the rest went out to hunt for food.

we went to a restaurant called End Of The World, which was highly recommended by Smelly's colleague, for early dinner.

it's not a very fancy restaurant. but only 5 minutes drive up from where we stayed.

fried calamari. surprisingly good. crispy and the batter is not too thick.

we actually ordered belacan chicken but dunno why this nam yu chicken came. we didn't bother so we ate it. tastes just like any other nam yu chicken.

Seong Tong La La. another dish that came wrongly. we ordered Japanese escargot and this la la came. wtf! lol! i think there must be some communication breakdown cos he keep speaking in Hokkien and we keep replying in Cantonese/English. and Deric is either not a great translator or a lousy in ordering food. hmphh. but we ate it anyway cos it's very good!

typical vege. how good can vege taste? they all taste the same for me.

Seafood tom yum with one prawn each and one squid each. and few fish balls. wtf! but taste okay.

baked crabs. which reminds us of Gary. cos we used to barbeque live crabs at his place. ahh..

this restaurant's specialty is actually lobster, which we didn't order cos it costs about RM 200 a kilo!! we saw many other patrons ordered those lobsters anyway. looks quite delicious!  our total bill came up to about RM 213.

after dinner, we went back to our rooms and rest for a bit. planned to go Gurney Drive for supper but it was still drizzling so we stayed in the whole night instead. the next day will be beach day!!!

Makan Trip - First Stop : IPOH

So we planned to go Penang for our Makan Trip on the 18-20 Dec and since we're gonna pass by Ipoh, we decided to stay one night on the 17th so that we don't have to rush the next morning. We (Kenny, Peks, Uncle Mun, Smelly and me) left KL at about 11pm and reached Ipoh about 1a.m. and went straight to Restoran Sun Tuck Kee for supper.

testing camera.

trying to figure out how to use the camera. my sifu of the entire trip is none other than Uncle Mun!

meh.. suckballs. still alot to learn.
*photo stolen from Uncle Mun

yummylicious squid.

fried hor fun. simple but very flavorful.

fried meehoon. again, it's very simple meal. but taste great! i think very hard to find similar taste in KL.

sorry bad lighting. but super yummy wat tan hor. unlike the wat tan hor in KL, theirs is very dark and watery. i can't decide which version i like better..

the next morning, we went to Fu San for breakfast, Deric and Christine reached just in time.

they shifted to a new place. more spacious and well.. new..

fried lobak gou. taste so-so.

prawn siew mai

bestest siew mai! i think besides Fu San's siew mai, i hardly eat others cos so hard to find siew mai that doesn't have strong pork taste! this one is fav!

dumpling in soup.

fish balls. fresh!

fried prawn. damn best!!!!

chee cheong fun is normal though

another reason to go back to Fu San. my fav pork ribs!! best best bestest!!

hot Chinese tea is a must when dim sum-ing.

Groupies.

of course we won't leave Ipoh without having their white coffee!! the Old Town (franchise) taste nothing close to this!

After coffee, we're all set to continue our makan journey up north!

Another Day To Remember

Last Friday (11th Dec 2009) was another day for me to remember. It was a day that I'll remember to be good to my parents. To my family members. To people that I care. To my friends. To appreciate them while they're all still here. Last Friday, was the day I lost my gramma. 2 weeks ago was the last time I saw her, smiling at me, even though I knew that she don't remember my name. Just 2 weeks ago, I told dad that she looked healthier than before. He told me it's because of a supplement that she took for a while now. Yes, we all saw some improvements cos she looked healthier and she actually answered us back when we ask her the most asked question, "have you eaten?", she will smile and say "yes, eaten", unlike the usual don't-bother attitude and pretend not listening.

Yes, I was sad. And I cried when I heard the news. I cried because I planned to see her in the afternoon but she left in the morning. But I didn't cry in front of her. I know she's happier where she is now. Besides family members, the only person who cries nonstop was my maid who took care of her for almost 2 years. She bathed her, slept with her, watched tv with her, fed her and accompanied her every single day. Every time we do prayers and every time she looks at gramma lying lifeless in the coffin, she will burst into tears. She cried for 2 days, day and night. And when we mentioned gramma, she will look very sad. I think it's normal for her to felt this way. It's like losing her family member too.

photo taken in June 09. i asked her to smile for the camera
I remember writing about her broken hips early this year and how her Alzheimer's got worse than ever and we're all ready for her departure. But just few weeks ago, I thought she'll have more time. But I guess her time is really up. She went to a better, happier place, without sickness, without ill-memories. I remember just few months ago, every time I sit down and look at her, my heart aches. Tears fell down uncontrollably. And I always wished that she still remembers my name. I guess she stopped trying to remember anything. Perhaps remembering is harder and more depressing than forgetting.

i took these photos in May and wrote something about gramma, but it's still in the draft until now. hmm.

i hope gramma found her happiness.

Tailo's Wedding.

woke up at 4.30a.m on Sunday to get ready for Sam's wedding. we have to go to Kuala Selangor from Subang to get the bride and rush back to Subang and then rush to Klang for the wedding lunch.

Good morning sleepyhead!
seriously, if it's not because of Sam, i die die also won't wake up so early! sigh! things that i do for my beloved ex-boss.. *pat self*

loving my owl necklace from Diva

Hew(in blue) fetched me and met up with the boys at Kinrara cos we're car pooling. boost up with coffee and preparing ang pau for Sam. since Hew didn't sleep and Vincent only got few hours, i drove from Subang to K.Selangor to and fro. actually it's damn tiring cos total 3 hours drive! wtf.. i only slept for 2 hours!

while waiting for the bride's side to open the groom's door. testing the multishot.
the little kid (i think it's the bride's nephew or something) refused to open the door. LOL! so we had to wait and tipu him to open the door. wtf!! if he duwanna open then how? cannot get married? wtf!!

finally got out. ah po was the best man.

apa lagi? kena from the ji muis..

kena force again.. and both of their first gay kissed were given to each other. ftl! haha!

Smelling which tissue with lipstick stamp and "smell" belongs to the bride.

and then.. er.. my camera ran out of battery. fml.

so after getting the bride, we went back to Subang and off to Klang for the lunch. slept in the car cos it's another 45 mins drive (i think) and when i woke up, we just reached. apparently i snored in the car. *shy*

bumped into ex colleagues and got insulted by another ex boss! wtf! he kept saying that i fat already. "denise ah.. ni fei liao hor?" repeat 5 times. fml.

more photos when i get it from Hew.

off to gym!

Duck King at Jaya One

After so much raves about this place, Smelly finally brought me there for dinner last weekend along with his dad. we went to Duck King at Jaya One. apparently their duck is very delicious. juicy tender meat and crispy skin.

instead of the usual peanuts, we get tofu for the "appetizer". ew.. hate cube tofu in general so no comments.

we ordered a combination platter which have roast duck, roast pork belly and char siew.
the duck tastes really nice. very tender and juicy. not too much fatty layer too. but i still prefer the one at pj er.. forgot the name. that one nicer. click here for photos .

duck goes along very well with the sweet sauce.

char siew roast to perfection. but the taste is very normal. Meng Kee at alor have better char siew.

surprisingly the siew yok is very nice! i like the crispy skin and it's not too fatty also.

dunno what organic vege. i like almost all types of veges so.. this is nice. very refreshing.

claypot homemade tofu. the taste of this dish is just right. not too overpowering with oyster sauce. i like! i only eat this type of tofu. not the cube ones.... meh..

their rice is very fragrant, slightly too sticky but i like! maybe i'm too hungry. tried their rice topped with pork oil. er.. not nice. too oily with er.. oil aftertaste.. heh.. Smelly said the oil rice was once very delicious when he visited earlier, just after they open. not the standard dropped a bit already.

we didn't manage to finish all the food so we tapau back for his brother. bill came up to about RM130. not very cheap. i think i'll opt for the duck in the other restaurant. PLC (peng leng cheng!)

Alliance Bank Customer Service - BAD

Customer service : *monotone* Good morning, i'm XXXX.

dy: hi, i'm about to make a payment for my ABC loan, just wanna check with you the account number.

CS : *monotone* ok. before that can i  make a verification?

dy : ok.

CS : IC number?

dy : XXX (i wonder what's the point of me keying in my IC number before she answered the phone and still got asked for verification. damn redundant)

CS : billing address?

dy : XXX

CS : loan approved amount?

dy: XXX  (i still don't understand why you want to verify me with hundreds of questions!!!! usually, max 2 important questions is sufficient)

CS : last 4 digit of your loan account number?

dy : (WTF???) i don't know the account number THAT'S WHY I CALLED.

CS : oh.. it's XXXXXX

dy : thank you.

*proceed to make payment but found out she gave me the other loan account number. wtf! i mentioned clearly which loan i want to pay! ugh.. luckily i noticed it before i confirm payment!

customer service people nowadays.. sigh! i can understand that it's a boring job cos i've been there, done it, but hey.. at least you can sound more cheerful? it's only 10am! and at least you listen carefully before verifying me with stupid questions.

Once Upon A Time... Well.. Not Long Ago.....

i was cleaning up my photos folder and i found a photo of me taken last year in December.
