Today. After two week's of Chinese New year holiday.. Finally back to work...
Surprisingly, I still remember how to greet on the phone.
But... I also can't believe how 2 week's holiday can deteriorate my memories... I forgot my work e-mail's password. (Actually, I remembered wrongly..), then, I also remembered a wrong password for the system access, which btw, is the most important thing that I HAVE to remember cos I depend on it to do my job.. Type three times for the wrong password and you'll be damned. Have to pay dunno how much USD for the IT guy from US to reset the password, etc.. Lucky me, I got it right on the third attempt. Also, I forgot to log myself out of the phone when I go for lunch, which is another VERY important thing, cos our calls are auto-answered. Which means we don't have to press any buttons or pick up the receiver to answer the phone. (have to be on the headset the whole time we're working). Which means, the in 5 minutes that I walked away from my desk before I found out that I did not log out and did not put on "Mute", there's probably a few calls came in and it's unanswered and most probably, I think definitely, the caller could hear whatever shit that we're bitching about, on the other end.. I hope there was no calls in that 5 minutes..
Btw, I got a call from my ex-boss last Thursday. I was in the vet, waiting to pick up Alfie. ( He was hospitalised due to diarrhea.. I think it's food poisoning.. Blame it on oily prawn crackers..). So he called me up that day ( it's been almost a year we did not contact each other.. -there's no need) and asked me if I'm interested to join him in a new hotel as Guest Relations Executive ( work at front desk jek...) The name they use for position is always very nice to hear right??? Haha..
So he e-mailed me the job scope and salary that he's offering. Salary a bit higher than my current job. But it's totally different job scope so cannot compare. So I went for the interview this morning. And they called me around 3p.m, telling me that I got the job. But there's a slight problem....
Current job work 5 days. 9 1/2 hours + 10 hours one of the days.
New job work 6 days / 5 days if working midnight. 8 hours per day.
Current job confirm Sunday off.
New job kinda impossible to confirm.
Current job earliest shift starts at 6am (open) / latest starts at 12.30p.m (close)
New job earliest 7a.m (morning) / latest 11p.m (midnight)
Current company is established. Well-known. Secured.
New company is brand new. Not many people heard of it yet. But high vision though.
Current job don't meet people. Only talk/deal on the phone. Got tiu-ed still can make face, they can't see us.
New job have to meet people. Face-to-face. Got tiu-ed still have to smile.
Current job sit and wait for calls. Can chat/blog/surf porn net surfing while waiting.
New job have to stand. No sitting. No leisure. (More focused perhaps?)
Current job is very comfortable. Colleagues are generally nice. Boss is not bad.
New job no experience at all. Will be working with ex-boss. Have to get to know new colleagues again.
Ok, I'll just stop the comparing for now... So there's a slight problem now. (Besides the above problems mentioned).
They're hiring me. But I need to have one month's notice. But they said I have to go training on the 15th of March. That's a week's time. My big boss is still in San Francisco for his meeting or something and he'll only be back on the 12th. I've e-mailed my boss today and ask if I were to resign, can I have one week's notice instead of a month. Hopefully don't have to pay any compensation for leaving before a month's notice. (IF I'm leaving la...). If he don't consider a week's notice, I'm not sure what to do... If he approve, should I go for the offer? Many people I've asked, their opinions are almost the same. GO FOR IT.
Why?
Change working environment la.. Get more experience la.... More pay la.. (though the salary cannot be compared cos it's not apple to apple comparison..). This company is growing la.. Many reasons..
But I also have reasons to stay.
I'm comfortable with my current company. Appraisal is in May, which means salary increment soon. With current company, I have more than 2000 choice of our own hotels to hop to if there's opportunity. Current company is well-known worldwide. I mean... how many of you doesn't know what's Marriott or Ritz Carlton?
How leh???

if you are comfortable on a 5 day week job... switching to a 6 days week job will be the biggest mistake in your life.

yes of course you're comfortable with current job plus increment is just a few months ahead but then, ask yourself, how far can you go with this current job compared to the new one? like i said, u should go out and try new things, if all else fails, doesnt matter.. there's alot of opportunities outside for you to grab..
go for it la.. trust me.. im your sister.. tak kan tak berani kot.. i dare u now.. hahahhah!!!!
zewt,
i used to work 2 jobs. 7 days a week altogether. so, switching is not a problem i think.
