Makan Trip - Day Three : PENANG / IPOH

The last day of our Makan Trip™, we thought of going to Kek Lok Si Temple. but then it was very jammed, don't know why. maybe everyone planned to go there. We stopped by for lunch at Macalister Road before continuing our journey to the temple. (this trip, besides food, i didn't really take any nice photos of people and sceneries.. it's a Makan Trip™ afterall.. and first photography lesson from Uncle Mun so still learning and only shot some ugly photos so won't post it up here. i will do my best over time!)

Sister's Char Kuey Teow.

yam cake. super nice! peks' fav.

chicken feet. also another yummy dish. Uncle Mun tried it for the first time and he fell in love with it. he doesn't eat chicken feet cos he says it's not nice. but this one definitely wins his heart!

i ordered a Loh Mee. substitute by meehoon cos they only have yellow mee and nee hoon to choose from. very nice too.

lobak.

the famous char kuey teow. this time we only waited for about 20 minutes, costs half of what we paid for the overpriced char kuey teow at Lorong Selamat (hmphh!!!), with a lil bit of crab meat and more cockles compared to the other one. definitely tatses better than Lorong Selamat's ones.

since the photographer don't really appear in photos, here's one to compensate the absence.

next, we went to the famous asam laksa at Pasar Ait Item for second round lunch.

asam laksa uncle is very friendly. he greeted his customers and when his customers leave, he will say "thank you, goodbye!!" with a smile!! good customer service.

icy sugar cane to cool us down. it was quite hot that day and we're seated right next to the cooking pots!

ordered another char kuey teow for sharing. i heard this stall's CKT is very nice. they use salted eggs to fry the noodles. but no salted egg taste also..

this is what makes the asam laksa so damn good. a bit geli. but it's okay cos we're malaysian.

though it's super crowded, we only waited for 20 minutes for this super duper i-already-miss-it asam laksa

after second lunch, we went for some biscuits shopping and head back to KL. we didn't go to the temple cos it's a bit late and it's jam. we stopped by Ipoh for dinner cos we didn't get to eat the chicken rice when we're there the first day.

tender juicy plate of chicken

of course have to go with their fat crunchy bean sprouts!

i had the hor fun.

we managed to clean everything.

i already miss the dimsum and chicken rice and asam laksa and CHICKEN SKIN!!!

till next year, Penang!

How Relationship Lasts VI

Recently in Penang, i saw many people parasailing... so i thought of trying out also...

Dy: Bie.. I wanna ride that tomorrow ok??

Smelly: huh? Er…

Dy: I want.. can ah? Can ah? Can ah? Can la… I wanna try!! But a bit scared lah.. so high!! *worried but still wanna try*

Makan Trip - Day Two : PENANG

The next morning, we woke up at about 11am and headed to the beach for some tanning and chillaxing.

we went to a nearby malay stall for breakfast. that's the only thing available so we ordered one plate of mixed rice to share.

kerabu and potato with cockles. surprisingly quite tasty.

still no sun but the clouds a clearing up at about 12.30pm

so we just chilled under the shades.

no sun, what else to do? turn on CW mode lah of course!

meh!

CW by the beach.

quite tired after 3 hours. why still no sun???

after our no-sun tanning, we went to Lorong Selamat for lunch.

the famous overrated char kuey tiaw

waiting time is at least 45 minutes. wtf!! we nearly gave up but since we're there, just wait lo..

meanwhile, we ordered prawn mee.

tasteless curry mee

super yummylicious o-chien

lo bak

popiah

another plate of o-chien. cos one plate is not enough!

then after all the food and almost an hour wait, this char kuey tiaw came. yes, the prawns are big but the kuey tiaw's taste.. well, all we can taste is spicy. nothing to shout about. prawns are overcooked. meh...  char kuey tiaw at Salak South is wayyyyy better than this! and this was RM6!!!!! super not worth it!

kenny's large plate. with 5 super huge prawns. RM8. wtf!! RM1 per prawn! i won't go back for this next time. not worth it at all.

CW photo.

after our late lunch, we head to Gurney Plaza for a walk. and got a summon for parking at yellow line. wtf. the car behind us never kena also! hmphh.. i think they target outstation cars only lo!

since it's too early for dinner, we decided to watch a movie. Bodyguard and Assassin. we're the first one in the hall! too lazy and tired to walk around so we thought of taking a short nap while waiting. the movie was good. though i think three of them slept through the first half an hour of the movie. i nearly slept but awaken by the gunshot sound. wtf! terkejut so not sleepy anymore.

after movie, we went straight to Gurney Drive for our fried chicken skin!!!!!

McTucky fried chicken skin. the best in Malaysia!!

damn.. i wish McTucky uncle open one stall in KL! it's one of the reason we go Penang weh!! looking at the photo makes me crave for it again! ahh.. tasty but sinful.

er.. squid again. wtf! now only i remember zewt's post about squid!! wtf wtf! not gonna eat squid for a long time again.

siput duri.

cockcles

asam laksa. definitely nicer than KL ones.

cos there's only the four of us, so we didn't get to try a lot of other food but chicken skin is enough to satisfy us!

and then... we got another summon after dinner. wtf! damn bad luck weh!!

Makan Trip - Second Stop. Day One : PENANG

After breakfast it was around 12pm, we continue our journey up north. it was quite jammed on the way.

see how jam it was?

it was a gloomy day.

close to destination. still very jam.

after what seems like forever, we finally saw the sign!!

yay!! by the time we reached the hotel, it was already 3.30pm.

we booked 2 rooms at Holiday Inn.

RM250++ a night. i think it's quite worth it. the hotel is very clean and just nice for the four of us in a room.

there was no sun and it was drizzling all day long so we (Me, Smelly, Deric and Christine) decided to stay in while the rest went out to hunt for food.

we went to a restaurant called End Of The World, which was highly recommended by Smelly's colleague, for early dinner.

it's not a very fancy restaurant. but only 5 minutes drive up from where we stayed.

fried calamari. surprisingly good. crispy and the batter is not too thick.

we actually ordered belacan chicken but dunno why this nam yu chicken came. we didn't bother so we ate it. tastes just like any other nam yu chicken.

Seong Tong La La. another dish that came wrongly. we ordered Japanese escargot and this la la came. wtf! lol! i think there must be some communication breakdown cos he keep speaking in Hokkien and we keep replying in Cantonese/English. and Deric is either not a great translator or a lousy in ordering food. hmphh. but we ate it anyway cos it's very good!

typical vege. how good can vege taste? they all taste the same for me.

Seafood tom yum with one prawn each and one squid each. and few fish balls. wtf! but taste okay.

baked crabs. which reminds us of Gary. cos we used to barbeque live crabs at his place. ahh..

this restaurant's specialty is actually lobster, which we didn't order cos it costs about RM 200 a kilo!! we saw many other patrons ordered those lobsters anyway. looks quite delicious!  our total bill came up to about RM 213.

after dinner, we went back to our rooms and rest for a bit. planned to go Gurney Drive for supper but it was still drizzling so we stayed in the whole night instead. the next day will be beach day!!!
