CNY 2011 So Far... - Makan Version!

One of the best things during Chinese New Year is of course... FOOD!!!

dad told me last time when they were young (and poor), CNY is really the only time they get to eat chicken and if they're lucky, seafood. Grandpa will rear the chicken few months before CNY and slaughter it during the eve of CNY. unlike now, we get to eat chicken and seafood EVERY DAY. okay.. i digressed. back to yummy foods! besides reunion dinner on the eve of CNY, we pig out throughout CNY.

DAY 1.

we had homemade glutinous balls (Tong Yuen) on the first day of CNY.

because it's a tradition to have (at least half day) vegetarian, dad cooked "Zhai Choy" to go with rice. Don't let the out look fool you.. it's SUPER delicious! and healthy too...

DAY 2.

Went to 3rd aunt's house at Tampin just in time for late breakfast... and she never failed to cook awesome dishes every time we went for visit!

Glutinous chicken rice aka Loh Mai Kai.

Chicken rendang for Ah Kor...

Special carrot cake - with Lap Cheong, corns, and a few types of beans. YUMS!

Yam pork.

Fish paste "yong" mushrooms.

Fried fishcakes

Steam prawns with garlic.

and we had dessert!! Oreo cheesecake!! (no, she didn't make this one... bought from Secret Recipe geh..)

Dad told us not to eat so full cos we're going to Melaka to visit 1st aunt. Because.........

my favouritest food waiting for me there!!! it's "Lui Cha". traditionally, they serve with 7 different types of thinly sliced/chopped veges, nowadays, you can cook as much as you like!! and it's to go with grinded tea and peanuts broth/soup. not many people like the taste though. but we grew up helping dad grind the paste with a big clay pot (like those you use for plants) and with a guava tree branch. nowadays, they use blender... i have a love-hate relationship with this dish though.. sure it's healthy and taste awesome, but every time dad decide to cook this (which is almost once every 2 weeks), we had to help him to painstakingly sliced/chop the veges. and must slice until very thin cos thick not nice wor.. this is the most hated part. pfft.

preserved vege.

a type of onion. damn best!! my fav!!

long beans.

fried dried shrimps.

sayur sawi. i forgot what it's called in english. haha!

four-angled beans.

cabbage.

potato leaves.

beans.

corriander leaves. also my fav!

and the main and most important star- Lui Cha! (tea and penut paste broth..)

to go with rice.. aunt added fried garlics, which is awesome max!!!

my bowl of fiber goodness.

add the broth and we're ready to dig in!

Day 3

orange is still food right? heh..

Day 7 (人日)

7th day of CNY is called 人日 (People's Day), which is everybody's birthday. so i skipped gym and went to Petaling Street to buy Yee Sang. this Yee Sang is special cos they replace turnips with pears. the taste is just nice. very sweet and not dry cos they used pears. and it's not too sour.

the infamous Yee Sang from West Lake Restaurant (西湖/Hup Kee) at Petaling Street.

"lou" for prosperity, good health, good business, get promoted, and many many happiness!

yums!

steam chicken to go with fish porridge.

guess what's inside???

lobster!!!! cos i missed the rice wine lobster Smelly's mom cooked on the 2nd day, she kept a bit for me..
^_^

counting down to our annual SuperFriends Lou Sang on 14th Feb at Flower Drum, Jalam Imbi. hopefully the food will be great.

oh.. i forgot the most important food....

if i can consider this as food lah. heh! sik wu!!!

To Friendship.

10 years since the first time we shook hands and said “hi”.

I had never imagined, that time, how that simple gesture and plain word would form a wonderful friendship throughout the years of growing up (and old).

You came along when I needed a companion the most. You were there whenever I needed a shoulder to cry on. You taught me how to be stronger. You almost never let me down.

You were not the greatest friend, but you gave me the greatest strength to move on and be who I am. You were not the best friend, but gave me the best opinions and solutions whenever I’m in trouble. You were the worst friend, and only the worst friend would give a smack right in my face and made me realize my mistakes. You were not everything a friend would ask for, but you tried giving all you can to guide me through hard times.

I will never forget the days we spent together as naïve teenagers. The good and bad times I will always remember.

What more could I ask for?

I could only wish for the best things to happen in your life.

I may not be your best-est friend, but I’m sure whatever we went through stays somewhere safe in your heart, always. Like it stays in mine.

I Love The Rain.

it's been raining for 2 days. this kind of weather is perfect for lazy day-in.

hibernated at home yesterday. woke up at 5.30pm and realised that i unintentionally FFK-ed a friend that was supposed to go shopping with me. nevertheless, i cleaned the room last night, threw away lotsa junks that i kept for very long time. but yeah, i admit that i'm keeping some junks just-in-case i need it. who knows?

gave away yet another bag of clothes. this time, i really have to learn to let go the clothes that i don't like/wear/fit anymore. let them find a new better owner. (but shhh... i'm still keeping a few favourite for-keeps pieces. bleh).

i wanna be a kid so i can go up on the slide again.

Dance? Really?

Been going to gym regularly since the beginning of January, and trying to gradually increase the time spent in there. They have this cha-cha dance class after the cardio dance and strength training, and most of them are aunties and uncles who joined for a few months. I’ve tried once, but it’s more like confirming myself as hand-eye-feet coordination maximum failure, so I gave up after half a class. But this uncle kept pestering me and my colleagues to join them, just to have fun. After discussing with my colleague, we decided to join the class today. Cos right… tak kan aunty and uncle also can learn, we young people cannot, right? So we decided to give ourselves 3 months. If 3 months still cannot get it, then I will declare that I’m lack of that dancing gene, and most probably cos none of my parents are good at dancing. Pfft. See? When in doubt, blame the genes. Heh.

Anyways, the annual Chinese New Year fever combo finally hit on me 2 days ago, all because of Smelly. After he got better from his fever, I caught it. Grr. Fever is gone but the nose is still runny and occasionally stuck, and cough also stayed. Hopefully will get well before CNY. Been having fever on the first day of CNY for the past 3 years. Hopefully won’t be so jinxed this year.

Talking about CNY, I haven’t got time to go shopping! Luckily I got a few cheong sams this year.. but I need to get work clothes and shoes…… and gonna pester Smelly go shopping this weekend for his clothes and uhm.. my camera!

Bonus where art thou?

Which One?

in a dilemma again. can't decide between this two babies...

Retails at RM2,499

or this one...

Retails at Rm1,799

one is micro four third and one is compact. both kinda similar in some ways.

i personally prefers E-PL2, with interchangeable lens option, more function to play around with, and obviously better quality photos compared to the XZ-1. But then again, the XZ-1 size is perfect for me.

how how?

p/s - please don't ask me choose S90, GF1 or any DSLR. i want opinion on this 2 option only ah..

I Love Hen's Party!

colleague's hen's party last week at Il Lido, Jalan Yap Kwan Seng.

we went to the open roof bar upstairs, nice place but too bad it's kinda empty when we're there. definitely will dine at the restaurant one day.

Frozen Peach Margarita, which was NOT frozen. pfft. tak sedap langsung.
